Flair was seconds away from defeat at the hands of The Empress but she locked in Figure Eight and Asuka was forced to tap out. Asuka showed off some nasty-looking kicks to her opponent, and Flair hit a thunderous Spanish Fly off the top rope. Both superstars delivered a fantastic performance on the Grandest Stage of Them All executing counter after counter. The WWE Universe was so excited for this match myself included. The Empress made her long-awaited debut on the September 11th episode of Raw and began to tear through the competition.Īsuka outlasted all twenty-nine other women in the historic first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match to challenge for the title of her choosing. ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ put her unprecedented and historic undefeated streak of 914 days on the line against ‘The Queen’s’ SmackDown Women’s Championship.įor years, this was considered a dream match while Asuka dominated the roster in NXT, while Flair won numerous championships on the main roster on both Raw and SmackDown. I know this is a fictional universe we’re talking about here where everything is controlled by a team of unseen writers, but if they wish to pull from the real world in order to make their stories seem more realistic, they should remember that not every great tag team has to come to an end. People don’t have to turn on each other, y’know. That would break my heart, but at least we wouldn’t have to see the New Day devolve into fighting. Maybe they get split up in this upcoming week’s Superstar Shakeup. Maybe they just decide to go their separate ways. I’m of the belief that the New Day should either stick together forever, or at the very least, have an amicable split. Why mess with something when it’s going that great? You’d be breaking up arguably one of the most popular and over factions in all of wrestling right now. I don’t see the necessity in turning the New Day on one another. They’re like a unit of brothers in there, and even though brothers do fight, they never turn their backs on one another. I love the New Day, have loved them since their debut waaaaaay back in 2014. Same goes for Kofi-Xavier, a great matchup on paper that I don’t want to see. A Kofi-Big E WWE title match may seem like a dream match for some, and I have no doubt that it would be an absolute smasher of a match. Teams run their course, and then they break up. I know, it may seem logical in storyline progression. We all would love to be a part of something so enjoyable, wouldn’t we? So why rain on that parade? They’re having so much fun out there, it’s addicting. Kofi, E and Xavier have a remarkable cohesion with one another, one we probably won’t see duplicated anytime soon. That type of chemistry is rare in this business. Do you see how much fun these three dudes are having in that ring? It’s golden, and it has been for years now. Just go back and watch the celebration segment from this week’s episode of Smackdown, or even the New Day’s unannounced appearance on Monday Night RAW the night before. This turn shouldn’t just be avoided now, it should be avoided period. People want to see New Day on New Day crime.Įlisa looks great in her Chairshot t-shirts. IT didn’t come to pass, but now that Kofi’s the WWE Champion, this movement will only grow bigger and louder. People all over the internet were calling for Big E to turn, and to take Xavier Woods with him, soiling Kofi’s moment on the Grandest Stage of ‘Em All. These sorts of sentiments were amplified when Kofi Kingston finally earned his one-on-one match with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania. There seems to be a growing movement among Wrestling Twitter and wrestling fans alike that would suggest that the New Day should turn on itself, particularly with Big E turning his back on Kofi Kingston. This one’s been bothering me for a long time now, basically since it was revealed that Kofi Kingston would be challenging for the WWE Title back at Elimination Chamber.
